~ Road trip is going well ~

Our road trip is going well. Not too much bad weather, but we did have some blowing snow and icy roads coming through Wyoming.

We're in Oregon today, and will be headed back to Idaho in a couple of days, and then back home on Sunday. It sure is good to see family we haven't seen in a while.

Today in Oregon we have some fog and cloudy sky's, and I'll get to stop by a friends store to meet her in person.
Well you all have a great day. I'll get pics later.

~Inclement weather reminder ~

With snow in the air here in Colorado, I thought that I would let you know that if we DO get a lot snow or ice, I might not be able to get to the store.

We live a ways from the main roads that get plowed, and sometimes it’s just too treacherous for me to drive. I live a ways from the store and my weather might be a lot different than the weather in town. I always try to make it in, but there are those days that the roads are just not safe for me to drive that distance.

If the weather is ‘iffy’ feel free to call the store to see if I am open before you make a trip out. The number at the store is 303-665-1767, and if I don't answer, please leave me a message as I may be with a customer and unable to answer. I will return your call if I am in the store.

Thanks for your understanding.

~ Colorado Weather ~

Believe it or not, we are in the middle of a winter storm. Winter already? Well the calendar says that it is fall, but looking out the door you wouldn't believe it.

We had approximately a foot of snow at the store yesterday (at least it felt like it when I shoveled). I shoveled the parking lot and sidewalks at least 3 times, and it was still snowing when I left at 5 pm.

I don't know how much snow is at the store today as I am sitting in the house and didn't try to brave these roads. They are snow packed and icy. Several of the highways and freeways in our area are closed due to the weather conditions.

Today is a school snow day. John is outside playing in the snow (good thing he bought snowpants and a jacket with his Christmas gift cards). It is fun to watch from inside the house where is it a little more toasty.

Stay safe and warm.

Nancie

New items added

Below are pictures of some of the new items in the store, and on-line. The Reindeer ~ I have made two different sizes, and they come either prim stained, or painted. They all have button eyes, and sewn eye browns and noses, and twig antlers.

~ What's new this week ~

I sure don't know where the time goes, but I have been busy creating, and creating more. I have made a few Reindeer Ornaments, and have a few more to finish up. They are so cute.

I have also made a few new signs, and working on more. Two are ready for new homes, and the rest will be ready this next week.

I am also in the process of making more tea bags with a holiday theme, and I'll be working on some hot chocolate bags with a holiday / winter theme. They are great stocking stuffers, or gifts for co-workers.

I am also working on re-doing a pair of end tables, but I need to get some different paint so that I can finish them. Will they be finished this next week? probably not, but as soon as their are done, I'll post pics.

I'll have to post pics the first of the week. I ran out of time this week and didn't get any pics taken. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday I can get them posted.

School is in full force

John has been back to school for a few weeks now. We're starting to get into the swing of things again, getting up early, dinner, homework, bath and then off to bed. He is bringing home about an hour of homework to complete each night.

John also hae been playing football, and dad is coaching. That is taking a lot of time on both of their parts, but they are having a great time. Their first game was this past Saturday and they won 40 - 19. Not too bad for their first game of the season.

I will be checking out the best day to close the shoppe and watch one of their games. When I get that figured out I'll let everyone know what Saturday I'll be closed. I'll give you at least a couple of weeks notice.

Old Town Lafayette Peach Festival

Old Town Lafayette Peach Festival is gone for another year and was a huge success. There were lots ot people in town enjoying peaches and the shoppes and sights of Old Town Lafayette.

The truck of peaches at our corner sold out, although they were $40.00 a box. Mark and John got a couple of peaches each while they were they there and they were a dollar each. I think that it was a little high, as did customers.

What I am working on this week.

I have gotten a lot finished this week, and I am working on more. Yes, I am working on pics (battery is charging), but you'll find them in the store already.

Primitive Stars with sayings, Primitive black cats with primitive pumpkins, Vintage jello molds pin cushions, and Primitve stars with primitive black cats. I also finished some stitchery pillows and I am in the process of getting them stuffed as I speak.

I have added a few primitive Americana items to my website. And now I am so excited, I just found the pair of arms for one of my dolls in process. I don't have to make new ones. Yea!! I am also putting some of my completed stitchery's into frames. Hope to have those ready to go by next week. So much to do and so little time.

Speaking of so little time, John goes back to school in less than 2 weeks. Can you believe that summer has gone so quickly? I sure can't, and I still have to go shopping for school supplies.

Back to stuffing and framing. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Oh, before I forget - I can be found on facebook, and twitter.

Hopefully they will set them on a certain Friday each month so everyone can count on coming down for that Friday night.

I'll post more info when I have it. I would like to thank everyone who made it possible, and of course the community who enjoyed it immensely. Every time we have one of these I get lots of comments and questions if we're going to do more.

We can now be found on Facebook.com

Thefts at the store

I have had a couple of thefts at the store lately. Someone stole a radio flyer wagon, unfinished wood pieces, a white wood rocker, and now I am missing two flower pots, a sheep and a cowboy boot. Why do people do this type of thing to people? They were sitting outside my back door at the store. I think that someone stole the wagon when I was working at the store.

Guess I am going to have to get some cameras. Yes, I did call the police and report them. I have also driven up and down a few of the alley ways checking in yards. Will do that for a while to see if I can find them. The wagon didn't have my name on it, but the chair did. Won't they be surprised where I put my name, unless of course they paint it before I find it.

What's New This Week

I finally feel like I have gotten something accomplished. It sure feels good. I finished some Primitive Americana Stars, and Primitive Sheep, along with an Americana Sheep. They sure are cute and now looking for new homes.

All of these items are in the store, and I should have them on my website before the weekend if finished, along with a few more collectables.

I do have several dolls are that in need of clothes and I hope to get them clothed by the end of next week and they will all be ready for new homes.

The Speckled Goose celebrates 3 years

That's right ~ We will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary on July 15th. To celebrate, Haley and I will have refreshments all week (brownies, cookies, & more), and samples of our yummy dips.

I can hardly believe that I have had the pleasure of visiting and meeting all of our wonderful customers, and creating unique one of a kind dolls, stitchery's, pillows, and so much more for 3 years now.

I have enjoyed every day of the past three years (maybe with the exception of shoveling the parking lot and sidewalks of snow) that I can not believe working anywhere else.

If you have time, please stop by and say "Hi", share some refreshments with us, and you'll also enjoy 20% off your entire purchases during the week of July 15 th - July 18th (with the exception of consignment items).

Thanks again for 3 great years!! Our Customers are the BEST!!!

What's New This Week

Well not much is new this week. Things are kind of disorganized for me. I had to take an unexpected trip to Texas for a few days, so that threw everything off schedule. I hope to get back on schedule this week. I am in the process of cleaning up all of the tea cup sets that I got a week or so ago.

Mark and I got to go to Greeley Stampede and see Kid Rock. That was a great concert. I love some of his songs, but with the rap I wasn't sure I would enjoy it, but he was great. We got rained on for about 10 minutes, but it didn't ruin or even slow down the concert.

John has been spending a lot of time the last couple of weeks with his grandma and grandpa from Oregon. He has been doing a lot of showing off, and steer riding for them.

July 2, 2009

What's New This Week

I picked up a radio flyer red wagon this past week. Now all I have to do is figure out what I want to do with it. Do I clean it up and sell it, or do I clean it up, and plant flowers in it and, then either keep it or sell it? Decisions, Decisions.

I recently went to an estate sale and this gal had a beautiful collection of tea cups and saucers. I picked up all I could. You'll have to stop by to check them out. They are really pretty and some very unique sets. I also picked up some USA Pottery, and a few more salt and pepper sets.

I am in the process of putting a couple of fabric frogs together. All I have left to do is dress them, and create their faces. They are looking really cute, and they are a lot of fun to make. I have painted a few new birdhouses, and am working on some Americana stars.

What's New This Week

I drove by this barbecue for 2 weeks and kept telling myself that I could do something with it, but what? Well it finally hit me and I finally stopped and picked it up.

It had to have my name on it as it sat there for a full 2 weeks or more. Well I figured out what to do with it and picked it up. I had 4 guys standing on the porch watching and laughing at me as I put it into the backseat of my car.

The barbecue is in great shape that I almost felt bad about putting flowers in, but it looks sooooo cute. I planted the flowers on Wednesday and I have gotten so many comments on it already. I am so excited and it looks so cute at the store. The barbecue is available for purchase, but with a local pickup only.

I also got the second half of the west side of the building planted in shrubs. I just have to pick up a few more and it wll be done. It looks so good. I have been wanting to do this for the last 3 years and I finally got it done. I'll have to get more pictures taken to show all of you. It s really coming together.

Can you believe that ~ The Speckled Goose is almost 3 years old. Boy does time fly when you're having fun.

Below is a picture of John on his new old horse "Spirit". She is close to 30 years old and he is having a grand time riding, grooming, and feeding her.

Red Tail Hawk - Portland, OR

As you may know from some of my earliers posts that Jay and Kay in Tulsa, OK lost their eggs this year to the weather (snow storm), so I started to watch the RTH in Portland.

They were so much fun to watch them hatch, their first feeding, and growing up. Well, it is time for them to fledge, and they were doing really well until one of them hit a car, and then the other hit a window (I think it was), well anyway they have both been rescued from their mishaps, and hopefully will be released back to their parents this weekend.

A gentleman by the name of Bob has been blogging about their process and you can see all of it along with pictures. Boy is he beautiful.

Hawk and Eagle babies are growing up

The hawk and eagle babies are growing up so fast and will be getting ready to leave their nests soon. I sure am going to miss watching them grow. They have been so much fun to watch hatch, eat, grow up and trying to fly.

I don't know what I am going to do with myself all summer and winter while I wait till next spring to start the process all over. I will keep all of you updated on all of the info I find and am watching.

I wonder if they go through this process more than once a year? I'll have to pull out the falcon & hawks book I bought John for Christmas and see what I can find out. It sure would be fun if they nest more than once a year.

What's New This Week

This past weekend was beautiful with all the warm weather and flowers blooming. The boys got to go practice calf riding, and steer wrestling. John rode a steer on Saturday, and then rode twice on Sunday. He is loving it. I'll have to get pictures, and maybe a video and try to figure out how to upload a video so that everyone can see him ride steers. Boy do they grow up fast. It was just yesterday that he was a baby and now he is already 9 years and pushing 95 pounds. Where does the time go?

I've got the store all spring cleaned, lots of new items in the store, flowers and shrubs planted, and now I have to figure out what I want to work on next. Any ideas???? More dolls?? paint some signs? I am undecided, but I am leaning toward doing some painting. I know, I need to get pictures taken of new items, the flowers and a new picture of the front of the store. Guess that is what I should work on this week.

May 16, 2009

What's New This Week

Where to start? So much has been going on the last couple of weeks. There are a lot of new items in the store, and I still haven't gotten pictures taken. That is my chore for today. Yesterday I dug up weeds, turned dirt, and planted shrubs on the west side of the building. I only got half of the area done so far, but it is looking good. I am sooooo excited. So take a look and let me know what you think of my choice of colors.

I have all of my spring flowers planted, and the bulbs that Mark and John gave me for Mother's Day. They are sitting right next to the front door of the store and look sooooo pretty. I love this time of year.

Oh I know what else, I took pictures of our babies last night. I'll get them uploaded and posted today. They are so cute to watch play and run around. One of them even thinks that his mom is a jungle jim. He jumps up and down on her back when she is laying down, and she just lays there. What a great mom.

Ok I have to get back to picture taking. I have sooo much new stuff in the store to show all of you. Have a great weekend, and I hope you enjoy the pictures of our babies. I do love to watch them play.

Where does the time go????

Where does the time go?? Can you belive it is already May, and John is out of school within 3 weeks time. Three weeks??? Why can't they go to school year round?

The Eagle and Hawk babies are growing like weeds. I just love watching them. The one camera at Sooner Lake in OK has been off-line for a few days. Don't know what happened there, but I am guessing it has something to do with the storms they have been having.

The baby hawks in Portland are getting big and so cute to watch, as all of the other babies I have been watching. After all of the bird watching, I got myself a present yesterday while I was out shopping. I got a HUGE eagle in flight print. I am so excited I can hardly wait to hang it in the house.

Mother's Day gifts galore!!

Mother's Day is next Sunday. Don't forget to pick up your special M0ther a special Mother's Day gift hand crafted in the USA!!

We have many unique one of a kind hand crafted items, great smelling soy candles, and Pamper yourself gifts already put together with gift tags. All you have to do is sign the tag. What could be easier????

If you live locally and see something on-line I'll gladly hold your purchase so that you can pick it up. Just let me know.

What's New This Week

Rain, Rain, and more Rain here in Colorado. It finally stopped on Saturday night. We had water every where, and even a little snow. It is supposed to be close to 80 degrees this week. I am loving it. This is one of the best times of year in Colorado. I just love Spring.

What have I been working on since our last update? Let me think, I have gotten a few more stitcheries done, and a couple pugs are in there too, along with a few angels, and spring flowers. Oh, did I mention that we have several new birdhouses, a few bird feeders, and other fabulous garden décor.

I have got so many ideas floating through my head, but I am undecided as to which way to go so far. I am excited about the warm weather, so I am leaning more towards making more spring stuff with lots of colors. I am also getting the itch to do more painting.

Art Night - Huge Success

Art Night Out was another HUGE success. We had great weather last night, lots of music, food and of course shopping. I finally made it home last night at 11:30. I keep getting asked if we're going to this type of thing often. YES, we are. We as a business community are glad that the community is enjoying the evenings out.

Our next Art Night out is June 19th from 6 pm - 10 pm. I will post more info as it becomes available, but make sure that you put June 19th on your calendar.

Have a Great Easter.

More Wildlife Live Cameras

This webcam link has several eagle nests with eaglets, and some owls. A couple even have sound.

As I said previously Kay and Jay (the red tail hawks) in Tulsa, Ok will not be hatching eggs this year. During a snow storm, Kay got too cold and couldn't keep the eggs warm. I am really disappointed. They are such pretty birds.

Hope you enjoy.

Think I came up with an idea. ha ha

Sutton Center Bald Eagle Nest Cam 2009 - update

Newer update ~ I have seen the eaglet and got to watch the first feeding. So cute watching both mom and dad there. The eaglet is a little grey fluff ball.

We have an eaglet. I haven't seen it yet, it hatched last night. Why do all the birthings happen at night when we're sleeping?

Here is the link again if you haven't saved it to you favorites.

Have a great weekend.

More Wildlife Live Cameras

You're not going to believe this, but I found some more webcams, and yes I have been getting a lot of work done while I watch the eagles and hawks.

This girl has 2 little ones that she is taking care of. It is so cool to watch mom and dad feed the babies.

This one has the eagles in Sutton (OK), and then in Tulsa, OK there is a red hawk and her mate sitting on a set of eggs. They are supposed to hatch in April.

At this website there is also a dialog box so that you can talk with other people around the world watching these birds. I haven't signed on to talk with anyone yet, but there is some good info on the birds, their habits, and much more.

This red hawk is so pretty.

I hope you all enjoy watching all of these small wonders as I do. Mark isn't as excited as I am, but then he is a man.
